Great ad design is easy!
Believe it or not, making great ads doesn’t have to be that hard! The creative licence a designer takes in delivering your message can differ greatly however most truly great ads all follow a simple rule: LESS IS MORE!
As competition for our attention has grown over the years, the time we have to make an impression on our target audience has shrunk. For billboard and print ads, you may only have 5 or 10 seconds; for radio and television, unless you can grab their attention in the first couple of seconds, you’ll have your work cut out for you keeping them interested in seeing or hearing the rest of your ad.
Many small businesses make the mistake of trying to say as much as they can in as short a time period or space as possible.
Great Ads will always:
- connect with their audience
- be memorable and easily recalled
- provide information quickly and efficiently.
- make it easy for your audience to find the info they need.
- ask’s the audience to do something.
Using white space is AWESOME, really….it is!
Overloading your audience with so much information they don’t know where to start is not productive. Effective advertising is a vehicle for you to invite your audience to connect with you to learn more about who you are, what you do and how you can help them.
A good print ad will usually include (but not always) ;
- A strong thought provoking image
- A strong headline
- A couple of paragraph’s of tight, well-written copy
- A logo and/or contact information
- A call to action
Here are a few examples;
